Entropion of the Lower Eyelid - Drawing Image

Entropion is a condition in which the eyelid is rolled inward toward the eye. It can occur normally with age, as a result of trauma, from scarring and even from previous surgeries. Common symptoms of entropion include redness, irritation, pain and sensitivity to light and wind. If left untreated, the condition can lead to excessive tearing, mucous discharge, scarring of the cornea, infection and blindness

Entropion surgery can:

  • Fix an in-turning lower eyelid
  • Prevent visual field disturbances
  • Correct excessive tearing
  • Prevent mucous discharge and infection

Dr. Sheila Shifrin performs entropion repair on adults and children for symptomatic reduction and prevention of long term problems. She is experienced in the nuances of the repair that are necessary for a good outcome. Dr. Sheila Shifrin has been recognized as a leader and innovator in her field as an industry consultant for Lifecell, teaching other surgeons on the use of the product in ectropion and entropion repair.
